Jill Story joined Hall Matson in August 2021 and continues to focus her practice on medical malpractice defense. Since joining Hall Matson, she has successfully resolved several cases prior to trial, successfully defended multiple LARA licensing investigations on behalf of clients, and discovered a vital record that absolved her client of any apportionment of liability in a significant case. She chose to continue her practice with Hall Matson because it is client-focused, goal-oriented, and team-centered. Jill feels this approach generates both successful results and satisfied clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Jill served as a medical malpractice defense associate for a large law firm based in the Detroit area and previously served as business consultant for a large international corporation where she advised on matters relating to enterprise risk management, human resources, and dispute resolution. Before entering the corporate arena, Jill’s core law practice included the defense of medical malpractice and Section 1983 claims, plus general business matters. Previously, she has served as a law clerk to federal magistrate Judge Roger B. Cosbey in the Northern District of Indiana. She earned her. J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law, where she graduated with honors and was a member of the Moot Court Society and its Executive Board. Jill also holds a M.S. in Education from Indiana University South Bend where she received the Graduate Research Award in Education for her master’s thesis. She received her B.A. magna cum laude from Ball State University. After several years as a teacher, she was further honored to have been selected as the Toyota International Teacher of the Year from a national pool of 500 applicants. As a result of this selection, she travelled to Japan to study culture, education, and environment. Jill is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and has previously served her community as the Director of the Williamston Schools’ Foundation – Endowment Campaign.
Jill’s career path is unique because she returned to the practice of law in 2018 after a consulting role in the corporate sector. She was a featured speaker at the iRelaunch Return to Work Conference 2019 at Stanford University, where she was interviewed by Georgene Huang, Co-Founder and CEO at Fairygodboss, after Jill obtained her re-employment in the legal sector based on a tip from Carol Fishman Cohen, Co-Founder and Chair at iRelaunch.
